I use a holistic approach in my work with adolescents and adults who are struggling with a variety of difficulties including anxiety, depression, relationship/family issues, life transitions, substance abuse, and trauma. I believe in a strong mind-body connection and my theoretical orientation includes cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic, solution-focused, motivational interviewing and family systems. See Therapeutic Interventions for more information about these.
I worked with adults and adolescents at Loudoun County Mental Health Substance Abuse and Developmental Services for 10 years. The individuals I have worked with have struggled with multiple issues including substance abuse, depression, anxiety, trauma, and personality disorders. I have provided crisis intervention for individuals I work with as well as to community members through the LCMHSADS Crisis Intervention Team Assessment Center.
My work with trauma survivors has been very rewarding for me. I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. I am also certified in the Trauma Recovery and Empowerment Model, which is a structured approach to helping survivors of sexual and physical violence, with a focus on current day functioning.
I have an extensive background working with adolescents who are struggling with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and a variety of other issues experienced by teens. As a Student Referral and Assessment Program Clinician, I have worked in 18 Loudoun County Public Schools to complete assessments for middle and high school students. As the Loudoun County Youth Shelter Liaison, I assess youth who have been placed at the shelter and make treatment recommendations for them and their families. I also provide therapy to teens at the youth shelter, when needed.
