About Me
I use a holistic approach in my work with adolescents and adults who are struggling with a variety of difficulties including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship/family issues, life transitions and substance abuse. I believe in a strong mind-body connection and my theoretical orientation includes Internal Family Systems, EMDR, cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic, solution-focused, motivational interviewing and family systems. See Therapeutic Interventions for more information about these.
My work with trauma survivors has been very rewarding. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which is a multiphasic therapy that facilitates healing from disturbing life events. I am also trained in the Trauma Recovery and Empowerment Model, which is a structured approach to helping survivors of sexual and physical violence, with a focus on current day functioning.
Prior to starting my private practice I worked with adults and adolescents at Loudoun County Mental Health Substance Abuse and Developmental Services for 10 years. The individuals I worked with struggled with multiple issues including substance abuse, depression, anxiety, trauma, and personality disorders. I have provided crisis intervention for individuals I work with as well as to community members through the LCMHSADS Crisis Intervention Team Assessment Center.
I have an extensive background working with adolescents who are struggling with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and a variety of other issues experienced by teens. In addition to my private practice, I was previously a Student Referral and Assessment Program Clinician. I worked in 18 Loudoun County Public Schools to complete assessments for middle and high school students. As the Loudoun County Youth Shelter Liaison, I assessed youth placed at the shelter and made treatment recommendations for them and their families. I also provided therapy to teens at the youth shelter, when needed.
